MotorsportSims.com
MotorsportSims.com was created by myself, Simon Oxberry, as an extension to Maverick Racing Ltd in April 2002. I have been a sim racer since the days of the original NASCAR Racing sim by Papyrus and have followed the evolution of this sim and other racing sims through the years. With the ever increasing realism, both graphically and in the physics models, these sims have become the closest you can get to driving a real race car without actually 'buckling up'; this is why I have become so 'hooked' for so long. Having been involved in real life stock car racing (ASCAR) and having raced my own dragsters over the years I can appreciate just how real these sims are.
It seems like ever since the first copy of NASCAR Racing hit the shelves people have been trying to modify the files, either to add more realism or to just change the graphics. Since NASCAR Racing 4 I have been 'tinkering' with some of these files. I am no expert, but am interested in learning more about the make up of the files and particularly about editing and creating new tracks. This web site is my 'home' for the editing and creation of new files and utilities. I hope it becomes a regular stop for others who are also interested in editing and hope we can learn from each others knowledge.
Originally this web site was to be the home of some on-line sim racing championships, where racers could compete for a small entry fee yet have the chance to win thousands of dollars in prize money. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Difficulties with hosting races where competitors are spread across the World means that this type of championship is not yet viable (even with technology where it is today). Because of the nature of the races (ie money being involved!) we had to ensure that races would be as warp and problem free as possible. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that racers wont get dropped from the server, or that the dreaded warp wont cause the 'Big One' at Daytona, so we have decided to put this project on hold indefinately. Although we had anticipated these problems before beginning the project we never realised they would be such a contentious subject among on-line racers. Maybe when the World is connected by a braodband network (and not asynchronous either) this type of racing can become a reality. I certainly hope so.
